Salsa! the essential album. 2CD set. This is a great place to start for those new to salsa and wanting something with a variety of speeds and styles to choose from. Some of the tracks have a strong rhythm that makes it easier to pick up the complex beat. Maraca : !Descarga total! This is one of our most played albums, and a must have for any salsa fan. Maraca's arrangements are fresh, effortless and celebrate all that is good in dance and great afro-cuban music. This album takes you seamlessly from cha cha cha, pilon, timba, to salsa and latin jazz with equal energy, passion and musicianship. A complete joy to dance or listen to in the lounge room. Essential listening. |
Pupy y los que son son : Mi Timba "Cerra" Another timba album, with quite a modern sound by legend "Pupy". A great party album with a similar aliveness to Los Van Van. Blending the charanga feel of strings, full vocal corros, with more modern sounds this finely crafted album has a great balance of pumping dance-floor power and relaxed lean-against-the bar listening. Bonus music video clip. Highly reccommended. |
Los Van Van : Llego.. Van Van (Van Van is here) Undoubtedly one of the best salsa bands to come out of Cuba, Los Van Van is considered the source of modern timba and the inspiration to musicians and dancers alike. This album contains some of our favourite and most played dance tunes, at a variety of speeds and feels these songs dont seem to age and guarantee hours of dancing or listening. |
Charanga Habanera : Soy Cubano, Soy Popular Bringing you the real cuban timba flavour, this album has track after track of great salsa. Characterised by a rolling, syncopated rhythm that just rolls along taking you with it. Guaranteed to cheer you up after a hard day and get you grooving accoss the lounge-room wishing it were Thursday night. Highly reccommended. |
Buenavista : The Next Generation With a line-up composed of the descendants of the musicians who formed the Buena Vista Social Club, this album is a fresh but traditional example of great Cuban music. Much less high strung than the above three albums, this CD is so easily dancable, and at the same time gently relaxing. Generally a more relaxed flavour of salsa, this album encapsulates a reasurringly healthy example of cuban music at its best. Greatly reccommended. Great speed for learning with. |
Ruben Gonzalez : Introducing... Rubén González A classic by the late acclaimed Cuban pianist, made popular by the Buena Vista Social Club. This is his first featured album, with its unforgettable crisp lyrical sound is still the favourite. Celebrating danzon, pilon, cha cha cha, bolero and other traditional cuban styles, this ablum is a must for lovers of loungeroom piano music. Some dance tunes too! Essential listening. |
