Welcome to Salsa in Tasmania

Workshops

These are generally 5 or 6 weeks in duration, each week progressing in a sequential fashion. You get to know other dancing in an easy social setting, and an ideal way to improve your dancing, consolidate your style and build friendships. We find people learn much easier than in Thursday drop-in classes.

Beginner's salsa. This takes you through the fundamentals of rhythm and the backbone of salsa dancing: the basic steps and making them smoothly fitting into music at various speeds. We work on the basic turns, salsa turns, spot turns, dile que no and guapeo.

Beginner's Plus. Afer mastering the basics in the beginner's workshop, we introduce more intricate variations of dile que, salsa and hook turns along with combination sequences incorporating cuban swivel turns, prima turns, and the basics of rueda - including setenta and sombrero turns.

Intermediate salsa. This concentrates on connecting and flow and momentum between the various turn patterns and steps already learned, and emphasises connection of partners using rotation and staying close to each other. All turn patterns are combinations and variations of basic steps already learned. An emphasis on Cuban styling, flow and rotation.

Rueda Workshops. These are usually weekend or one day workshops, teaching the basics of rueda to more advanced turns. Note: you have had enough dancing experience to know the following: forwards and backwards, salsa turn, prima turn, dile que no, and have had "enough" social dance experience.

Dates for the workshop will be determined by student interest, teacher and venue availability. Please contact us to register you interest in doing a workshop.
